On an evening in November 2001, at a little sushi restaurant in Chula Vista, CA, a group of enthusiastic artists came together to form a group called ASWEMBAR, whose goal was to create works of art centered around unique stories produced in a variety of mediums. ASWEMBAR, short for Almost Sober While Eating My Beans and Rice, was adopted as the name of the studio to match the diverse backgrounds and visions of the original founding group. And finally, in the summer of 2002, Aswembar Productions debuted at the San Diego Comic Con with its first publication, Magazine Zenkai 2002.
Four years later, we find ourselves at the outset of 2006 with three Comic Cons under our belt, a showing at the Pacific Media Expo, and three issues of our annual publication, Magazine Zenkai, released. We have also published two web comics: Nyamo: Girl from Across the Sea, and Gremlin World, and two other short works. Like many small groups, we have also seen members come and go, have seen good and bad days at conventions, and have had our success and our failures, but despite our shortcomings, our creative enthusiasm drives us forward towards our unchanging goal of making the most creative works we can produce for our audience and for our creators.
